Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine

Tasty and Fast Cuban food!  The Cuban is also a safe bet, or try one of the daily specials like the Arroz Con Pollo.  Make sure you get the special green sauce!

Christopher Norman Chocolates

Deliciously decadent hand-painted chocolates make the perfect special occasion gift – try the tea collection.  Or just pop in for a chocolate bite and a good cup of coffee.

China Chalet

Serving delicious food for lunch and dinner for over 30 years.  Rent out the upstairs for a private event serving up old-school classic realness.

Les Halles

Just as good as it’s uptown sister and their delivery service is amazing – the steak au poivre with french fries arrive as good as if it was table service.

Grotto Pizzeria & Restaurant

An institution in the Financial District.  Mondays and Tuesday feature awesome value meals – the ziti is fresh and the pizza is cheesy.  Only open Monday through Friday.

Broad Street Ballroom

Truly elegant event space that ironically hosts Friday Night Fights – an “Old School Fight Club.”  Get there early, as there’s only one entrance to the venue.

Bobby Van’s

An old-school and thoroughly enjoyable steakhouse in a bank vault. Try the Bobby Van’s Filet Oscar or the Famous 12oz Burger (go South of the Border).

The White Horse

A wonderfully dark and divey bar where the drinks are cheap, the bartenders are friendly and the patrons are suitably subdued.

Flavors Café

Super Fast, Super Busy and Super Salads.  For $8.50 you get one protein, three premium toppings and unlimited remaining toppings.  Everything was very fresh.

11 Broadway Babershop

Pop in here during your lunch break for a great haircut and a shave from either Russell or Levi – you’ll be in and out in 20 minutes.

Department of Motor Vehicles – Financial District

Clean, quiet and organized – things that are missing from the midtown locations.  Definitely worth the out of the way trip to avoid the crowds.

MTA Subway – Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall (4/5/6)

Another badly kept NYC secret - stay on the 6 train as it turns around and you’ll be able to sneak a peak at the oldest subway station in NYC.  Or exit the station and walk the Bridge.

National Museum of the American Indian

One of the more fascinating museums in NYC – situated in the old US Customs House – where admission is FREE everyday and it’s rarely crowded.

Staten Island Ferry

It might be the worst kept secret in NYC – but impress out-of-towners with a ride and enjoy the best views of the Statue of Liberty.  The ride is free…the beer is cheap.

Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts

Part of Pace University, this theater is home to student productions,  Tribeca Film Festival screenings, Inside the Actors Studio tapings and much more.
