Long Island Railroad: Jamaica Station

Traveling to the Hamptons or JFK, then you’ll have to transfer either to the Double Decker train or the AirTran.  Get a seat towards the front of the train for an easy transfer.

Enjoy fantastic views of the Whitestone bridge while going for a jog, taking a walk, proposing to your girlfriend or posing for beautiful wedding photos!

 

Astoria Park

Just across the river is this beautiful oasis that is never overrun with people!  Enjoy running (there also a track), biking, tennis, a play or a relaxing picnic. They also have free WiFi

 

LIC Bar

Aside from the amazing backyard space in the summer and the reasonable drinks, the best part of this bar is the local musical talent that performs here.

 

The Noguchi Museum

A haven for those seeing some Zen and Tranquility!  Make your pilgrimage on the first Friday of the month for pay-what-you-wish admission.

 

Louis Armstrong House Museum

A must for any Jazz fanatic or if you’re curious about Louis Armstrong.  The house is a shrine to his larger-than-life personality and talent.

 

Queens Museum of Art

Make the trek just for the New York City Panorama – it’s absolutely worth it.  Afterwards, take a stroll around the Unisphere and the World’s Fair Pavilion.

 

New York Hall of Science

A perfect place for the family to spend an afternoon – play an educational round of mini golf or let the kids frolic in the playground.  It’s definitely crowded during the weekends.

 

Museum of the Moving Image

Come here after 4pm on Fridays for Free Admission!  The Jim Henson exhibit is very cool – see it before it closes.  Check their film-screening schedule – it’s included in your admission.

 

Astor Room

The drinks alone are well worth the trip out to Queens! Try a glass of the Navy Grog and you just might not want to (or be able to) leave!

 

Legend’s Bar & Grill

A hidden gem if there ever was one – an average bar outside hides some delicious BBQ inside!  Try the Jimmy’s Junk Plate with mashed potatoes and baked beans.

 

Angelina’s Metro Market

Need a quick bite before your flight – then stop in here for a high-quality, fresh and organic meal on the go.

 

Yankee Clipper

Don Draper would be at home here – the atmosphere and drinks are definitely his style and what you’d come here for.

 

Cibo Bistro and Wine Bar

They have the most comfortable seats at the airport, the best Bloody Marys and a good selection of beer and new American fare.  Service can be dreadfully slow.

 

Jetrock Bar & Grill

A very nice place to pass the time with a good stiff cocktail before going through security.  It’s right outside the checkpoint, so it makes for great people watching.
